Weber 386002 Liquid-Propane Gas Grill Review

Is grilling on outings a pain for you?

It was for me. I used to avoid grilling whenever we spent the day out—at the beach or on a camping trip. I’d do anything to avoid using one of those flimsy portable grills that char-burned half the food and left the other half raw in the middle. Besides that, I had to listen to my family whining for a turn to eat, since I could only get enough on the grill for a few people at a time. I longed for the monster grill that we use at home, but no way was that thing ever going to fit in the trunk of my car.

If you’ve ever wished you could load up your beloved full-sized grill to get that same home grilling quality out on the beach or at a picnic, you’ve got to look at Weber’s compact edition: The Weber 386002  Q 100 Liquid-Propane Gas Grill. With its compact size it’s convenient enough to take anywhere, while still offering the sturdiness and quality of cooking you’re used to.

Efficiency for taking it on the go!

No lugging a heavy propane tank with this Weber Q 100 Gas Grill. It runs on an efficient, space-saving 14.1 or 16 ounce cylinder. It also offers the flexibility of adding the extension hose if you want to use a larger propane tank, which I love when I’m cooking for a crowd.

Built to last!

Everything from its cast aluminum body to its porcelain enameled cooking grate and weather resistant handle make this grill built to withstand use over time in even the worst elements. Its heavy porcelain-enameled cast iron grilling surface will never give in, even under the heaviest usage. I’ve been taking my Weber Q 100 everywhere for 2 years now, and it’s as good as new.

A convenient size for all occasions!

Count on Weber to provide a portable go-anywhere grill, but it’s just as great to use at home. My mother-in-law doesn’t want a clunky grill cluttering up her small apartment deck. The Q 100 fits great and then stores away in a snap. The Weber Q 100 is light and easy to move with two handles for easy lifting so storing and toting are never a problem.

The versatility to satisfy any grill master.

The Weber Q 100 is built to provide countless meals—from perfect steaks to seafood to vegetables—while cooking them evenly and delivering your foods exactly the way you intended them to turn out. The circular grilling element evenly distributes heat, while the controls let you decide exactly what temperature you want your food cooked in.

The Weber Q 100 easily fits into the trunk of a compact car.

I love that I get almost the same capacity as a full-sized grill with only a third of the size. This is because the cooking surface takes up most of the space, and you can cook to the edge of the grill without changes in the grill temperature.

I also love the heavy cast-iron grate. It’s sturdy enough to take on heavy-duty cooking and get jostled around in the trunk of a car. I also bought the portable rolling stand, which is great because I don’t have to bend over or put it on a wooden picnic table.

I was worried about trying to cook steaks, but it sears them perfectly every time, even extra thick cuts. It also cooks amazing salmon, never dry or burnt at the edges.

Cons: Consumer comments:

The interior of the grill and the grease pans are not that easy to clean. Also, I do find it’s pretty heavy when I have to walk long distances. That’s from that heavy grill, and I’d still rather have that than a flimsy cooking surface.

Here’s the bottom line:

Believe me when I say that I’d pack peanut butter sandwiches or roast hot dogs on a stick before I’d use a cheaply made portable grill. I’ve been using my Weber 386002 Liquid-Propane Gas Grill for over 2 years and on countless trips to the beach and weekend camping trips.

The performance? Outstanding. I’m a person who enjoys the quality of perfectly grilled food as much as a day in the great outdoors. I’m not about to compromise—and I don’t have to. Taking along the Weber Q 100 keeps my family actively enjoying nature with the best of meals to look forward to.
