Panasonic NN-SD681S Microwave Review

This stainless steel countertop microwave is ideal for making popcorn, warming up soups, and cooking meals. This microwave comes with different temperatures settings that allows for users to cook different types of foods that require different temperatures. It has a pulsing high power setting that turns the high power on and off that allows for a different amount of heat being used on the food rather than a continuous stream of high heat or low heat which can cause food to not be properly warmed up, defrosted, or cooked.

The Panasonic NN-SD681S microwave delivers variable power that allows for different foods to be cooked thoroughly, meaning that some foods only simmer without overcooking the edges while others are fully cooked. The microwave is compact and weighs only 25.5 pounds and is stylish with its stainless steel design. The design of the microwave allows for larger dishes to fit into it like a casserole dish and it’s all because of the design of the microwave which has lighter and more compact circuitry.

The Panasonic NN-SD681S sensor cooking button automatically sets the power levels and adjusts the cooking or defrosting time based on the amount of steam being produced when food is cooking. The sensor than signals the microprocessor to change the cooking time and how to adjust the temperature based on that steam. This allows for the food to be cooked properly. The turbo defroster is faster than the traditional microwave defrosters and supplies the food with continuous power defrosting the food at a faster speed.

The Panasonic NN-SD681S also has features that allow for users to soften food and not necessarily cook them. This is useful for foods like butter, cream cheese, ice cream, chocolate, and soft desserts that may need warmed but not cooked. The one-touch sensor is great for various foods and it adjusts the power levels and cooking or reheating times according to what you are making. This feature is great for pastas, frozen dinners or appetizers, potatoes, vegetables, or warming beverages. It also comes with a pop-out spin dial that is easy to use to adjust the time and temperature; this is a unique feature and is different from the traditional push buttons that are found on regular microwaves. The pulsing microwave power keeps the food at just the right temperature which is useful as it does not overcook the food. The blue LED display is highly visible and makes seeing the time and temperature easy for anywhere in the kitchen.

The Panasonic NN-SD681S also comes with several other features like the push button door release and stainless steel front which make it easy to open and easy to clean. However many have found that stainless steel appliances are smudged easily when people touch them which causes them to need to be cleaned more often. Also microwaves that have stainless steel handles located close to the crease in the door have a tendency to get warm or hot when the microwave is in use especially for longer periods of time this has the potential to get warm enough to be uncomfortable to touch after the microwave has been used. The microwave also comes with a child safety lock that makes it impossible to start the microwave when the door is still open. The start button has to be pressed three times in order to lock the microwave and the stop/reset button has to be pressed three times in order to cancel it.

  • Blue LED display is very clear and easy to read up close or from an angle.
  • Sensor reheat works well for reheating foods
  • Dial feature is easy and effective
  • Compact but taller than other microwaves
  • Fits nicely on most counter spaces
  • Door lock is solid and latches well

  • All of the functions can be hard to understand
  • Difficult to distinguish which settings to use on which foods as there really is not a guide for the numbering system used
  • Interior light only turns on when food is cooking not when the door is opened.
  • The steaming feature creates a lot of condensation inside of the microwave, which often needs to be wiped up
  • The auto cook feature does not always cook frozen dinners as fully as they should

Overall the Panasonic NN-SD681S is a neatly designed microwave that comes with some newer features and technology that offer users a unique microwave cooking experience. Instead of buttons there is a push dial that allows users to set the microwave to the setting that they want to use. The new LED blue light screen is easily read from a distance or at an angle. The steamer sensor technology allows the microwave to sense the amount of steam being made from the food and it then can adjust its heat and time according to the foods readiness.
