Features and Design

The vacuum comes with a brush roll, crevice tool, riser visor, dust cup, fingertip controls, and a cord that wraps around the end of the vacuum. The brush roll is best used for cleaning flat areas, stair steps, and upholstery. The brush has a clear plastic cover called the riser visor which stays down when used for cleaning horizontal surfaces and can flip up so that the revolving brush can be used on vertical carpet or on stair risers. The Eureka vacuum is best used for stairs and upholstery and it can be easily handled because of its lightweight and compact design. The vacuum can be used on carpets or on bare floors and on area rugs. It can be used for larger areas but also for quick clean ups. The dust cup is smaller however and might need to be emptied frequently for larger areas. It is recommended that the Eureka vacuum be used more for smaller jobs like stairs or quick clean ups rather than vacuuming a whole room. To empty the dust cup the user simply has to pull back the power switch to the right position and lift the dust cup out to empty. It can easily be washed out and dried if needed. If the dust cup is not properly installed it can cause damage to the vacuum so before using consumers should be sure that the dust cup is properly in place.   If the user is vacuuming frequently with cleaners, powders, or dust the filter and dust cup may need to be changed more often.

The Eureka 71B is not only good for getting out deeply embedded dirt but it is also good for using on smaller spaces. The crevice tool is designed to get into the tight spots that other attachments and vacuums are too big to reach into. It can reach the places that the brush roll cannot reach.

Consumers that have used the Eureka 71B have noticed that although it is compact and lightweight it can be too heavy for continuous use but is light enough to be used for short periods of time. Many users agree that it is heavy. However it does work well to remove pet hair from upholstery and is great for cleaning stairs as it can be used horizontally and vertically. For its small size it is a powerful vacuum that is solidly built and the filters are durable and last a long time. The filter is easy to remove and reattach after cleanings or if it needs replacement. However as previously stated if the vacuum is used often and on very dusty or hairy carpets and furniture than the filters may need to be cleaned or changed more often. Many users seem surprised at the amount of suction that the vacuum produces especially for its size. Several consumers have pets sometimes multiple pets and they are very pleased with the power of the vacuum and the amount of hair that it can pick up.

Some users have found that the vacuum pushes or blows dust out of its vents when they are using it. This can be common when using vacuums on a hard floor instead of carpet or it could be that the floors being vacuumed are dusty and the vacuum is unable to pick up all of the dust there. Not all of the users have had this problem and thus it may vary from user to user. Some users have also noticed that the design of the handle is not as user friendly as they would like it to be and is not exactly ergonomic. This could also contribute to the weight of the vacuum and why many find it too heavy and hard to use for extended periods of time.

Other users have found that the hose is a great feature as it is stretchy and the crevice tool attachment is easy to get to and easy to use. They have also noted that although the dust cup is smaller it still holds a good amount of dirt but it can be a bit messy when they empty the dust cup. Also some do not like that it is not cordless but a plus is that the cord is longer making its use easier. Consumers have also noted that the vacuum can be noisy especially if it is used over a longer period of time. Some users have also noted that after continuous use for multiple years the vacuum stops working and smells like something electrical is burning. Only a few users have had this experience but it may vary from vacuum to vacuum.
