Epiphone DR-100 Acoustic Guitar Review

Choosing the perfect guitar can be a very difficult task for the beginning guitar player. When you are just beginning to learn the instrument, you will not have the extensive knowledge of different types of guitars and how guitars should sound to make a choice based on that alone. Also, guitars can cost thousands of dollars, and many beginners don’t have that much money to spend on their first guitar. It is better to not spend a fortune on your first guitar anyway, since it is the guitar that will take the worst beating, so to speak. It is best to choice a fairly inexpensive instrument when you decide to give guitar a first try. However, inexpensive instruments can suffer a decline in quality because of the lower price. But there are many inexpensive guitars that deliver the same sound quality and have as good of an appearance as much more expensive models. One such guitar is the Epiphone DR-100 Acoustic Guitar. It is a great sounding, low priced guitar that is perfect for beginners of all ages.
Epiphone DR-100 Acoustic Guitar
The Epiphone DR-100 is the best selling acoustic guitar from Epiphone. This guitar has a classic shape, mahogany back and sides, a spruce top, and a rosewood fingerboard bridge. This combination of woods gives the guitar a deep, pleasant sounding bass, booming projecting, and a balanced sound overall. The rosewood that the fingerboards are made of makes each chord sound clear and distinct. The rosewood is also quite a durable wood. The fourteen degree headstock provides more pressure at the nut of the guitar so your guitar’s tuning will stay consistent, lessening the need for re-tuning. The hardware of the guitar is made out of chrome, and the guitar has finishes of ebony, natural, and vintage sunburst available.

The Epiphone DR-100 Acoustic Guitar is perfect for first time guitar players. For one, it is not hard on the wallet, so beginners who want to dabble in the instrument don’t have to worry about spending too much money on the instrument. Despite the low price, which is only a fraction of the price of other guitars, its quality rivals guitars multiple times its price. The guitar emits a clear projecting sound that isn’t found that often in guitars of the same price. This guitars tuning stays consistent through multiple playing sessions. That way, you can focus on improving your playing skills instead of worrying about tuning your strings. It has a beautiful, polished shiny look that makes it look like a guitar that is much more expensive. This is ideally a guitar for learning. It has a low price, great look, great sound, and will feel comfortable in a beginner’s hands. Advanced players will find that this guitar makes a good back up and spare guitar for practice and songwriting sessions.

This guitar has a few flaws, but nothing to interfere with your playing experience. For one, the action of the guitar may be a little high for some. You will have to purchase bone bridges and file them to lower the action, but this is only a minor inconvenience. The bridge of the guitar isn’t adjustable. It might also be a little fragile, so this is definitely one to not throw around too much. While the guitar has a classic appealing appearance, it isn’t anything that is outstanding show quality. If you plan to play live, then this guitar probably isn’t the best choice. It is most suitable for learning, practice, or playing for fun on your personal time. Also, this guitar is best for strumming and picking. It isn’t quite suitable for doing solos. The top frets of the guitar might be a bit difficult to play if you don’t have really strong fingers. The Epiphone DR-100 is best for playing around the campfire. Not the best guitar for gigs or public performing, but if you need a guitar to carry around with you or to play in your spare time, then this one is it.

The Epiphone DR-100 is also quite durable and won’t suffer from much damage and typical wear and tear. It is good for traveling and taking with you to various places as needed. It produces a nice, clean sound with no buzzing and consistent tuning. Since it has a glossy finish, the guitar won’t suffer from many scratches, even after being played frequently. If you have children or are around children, then this is the perfect guitar to let them experiment and play around on. You won’t have to worry about it suffering from too much damage, since it is durable, and should anything happen to it, you won’t be out of too much money. It is good for beginners and people who are returning to the guitar after years of absence. Get this guitar if you want something that is not too expensive, sounds great, has a great look, and won’t give you too much problems. The action of the guitar is by far the only complaint, but it has little effect on the overall quality of the guitar.

The tuners of the Epiphone DR-100 Guitar are a little flimsy, but that doesn’t bring down the overall rating of the guitar. You can play acoustic and unplugged songs on this guitar, but don’t try to play any power chords or anything that is too heavy. It plays most hard rock songs just fine, but songs with a larger amount of power chords may produce some buzzing. Otherwise, this guitar plays perfectly fine. You will most likely want to get an extra guitar if you plan on branching out and playing more ambitious songs. But if you plan to play general rock, country, blues or classical, this guitar will be fine. For the price, this guitar is top notch. It won’t be the one you will want to choose when playing in front of large crowds of people, but for simple practice and playing around smaller groups, it will work just fine. It will make a great gift as well.
